NEW STATE SECRETARIAT TO ACOMMODATE MORE MDA'S - - SAYS OGEH

AS part of efforts to address the housing needs of Deltans, the Delta State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with professional developers in the housing industry for the construction of housing units in the state.

Also, to provide office accommodation for the state’s civil servants, the state government has equally concluded plans to construct another secretariat to accommodate state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) currently under rent, to save cost.

The Commissioner for Housing, Arc. Joseph Ogeh, who made the disclosure during the ministerial press briefing in Asaba, recently, said that once the MoU recently signed for 1,000 housing units with the Green Field are executed, the challenge of accommodation confronting public servants in the state will be resolved.
He added that the engineers in the ministry have designed a perfect design for the proposed building, which he said will soon commence operation.
“To cushion economic-bottlenecks, occasioned by the economic recession, by reducing administrative cost and the creation of fund yielding mechanism, the state government has handed over the running of the magnificent Abuja Delta Tower to private company for efficient management,” he said.

Arc. Ogeh, assured Deltans of the readiness of the state government to provide housing accommodation, as well as create the enabling environment for developers to provide more accommodation, to address the housing needs of the people.

The commissioner also noted that as part of the state government’s efforts to provide and encourage housing development in the state, the establishment of ‘Site and Service Scheme across the urban centres will be encouraged.
He also noted that a workable housing policy was reached with professionals in the housing industry during the recently concluded forum held in the state, an occasion which he said, provided conducive healthy discussion for the benefit of the state, adding that the forum was first of its kind in the state.
