Okowa, Extolling The Excellence Of A Construction Wizard

    By: Collins Arinzechukwu Agwam

For many who are conversant with the prevailing situation in Nigeria, they would agree with me that most governors in the country are presently away from construction sites due to the low allocation accruing to states from the federation account as recession continues to bite harder.

However, it is a different ball game altogether in Delta state as governor Ifeanyi Okowa has proven beyond every reasonable doubt that he has the people at heart and has been able to deliver dividends of democracy to the people in less than two years in office.

While other state governors are complaining about paucity of funds which have deterred them from projects execution and implementation, governor Ifeanyi Okowa has been able to make judicious use of the 'little funds' accruing to Delta state to better the lives of the masses through the execution of various projects scattered across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state.

In a bid to alleviate the untold hardship of motorists in the state, Ekwueme as he is referred to in the traditional circle, has since his emergence as governor of Delta state in may 2015, constructed over 40 roads across the state. Today, his impact as the governor is being felt across the length and breadth of the state as he has in less than two years in office turned the fortunes Deltans for the better.

Some of these works include; the construction/rehabilitation and commissioning of the Tankers
Park Road, Christ Embassy Road Asaba, Palace Road Owa-Oyibo, Dr Whyte Street/Upper Imudia Street Asaba and Kefas road Oleh.

Others are the dualization of Agbor Township Roads, dualization of
Cable Point Road, Alisimie Ozanogogo Road, Ubeji/Jeddo Road, and Jesus Saves Road.

Only recently, governor Ifeanyi Okowa pledged to rehabilitate the failed portions Of Eku/Abraka/Agbor federal road, he noted that, "though it is a federal road, the state government decided to work on the road in the interest of the people".

Okowa also approved the contract for the rehabilitation/asphalt overlay of Ekakpamre/Ekrokpe/Usiefurun Road in Ughelli South and Udu local government areas and the rehabilitation and resealing of Alihiame/Aliagwai/Aliokpo/Agbor-Nta road in Ika South local government area, the construction of Winners Road and Jehovah Street/Umonu Crescent, all in Abraka, Ethiope East local government area and the reconstruction of Owa-Alero/Ute-Okpu road, (from Railway Fly-Over Bridge to Ute-Okpu Roundabout) in Ika North East local government area.

Others are; the continuation of the construction of Issele-Uku/Onicha-Uku/Ugbodu/Ukwu-Nzu/Obomkpa/Idumu-Ogo road and the completion of phase 2 of the contract (2.43 km length) from Onicha-Uku to Ukwu-Nzu in Aniocha North local government area of the state.

Not leaving the education sector untouched, Okowa has in less than two years in office built schools of high standard across the state, these include; the re-building of the famous Ofegbe Technical College, Agbor Technical College, Sapele Technical College among others. This is in a bid to ensure students get sound education with adequate facilities.

In his resolve to make Delta state an enviable one among other states in the country, the medical doctor cum politician who understands best that 'Health is wealth' has also done greatly well in the area of building of hospitals across the state with facilities to enhance the work of medical practitioners in the state, some of these hospitals built by the governor are; the Abavo General Hospital, Patani General Hospital, among others.

With all these great works of the Okowa led administration in less than two years in office, one can only wish that all states in the federation have a governor like him as he has proven to be a 'construction wizard'.
