Some people are pushing me to contest in 2019- Atiku

The people of Adamawa state have declared support for business mogul and former vice president of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar.

The state government declared its total support for the former president in his presidential ambition.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the construction of Girei-Wuro Bokki road, the chief of staff to Adamawa state governor Abba Jimeta said the entire people of the state are behind Atiku.

Jimeta also said all elected and appointed officials in the state would work for Atiku as soon as he declares his intention to contest for presidency.

“The entire Adamawa state government is firmly behind the former Vice President; where ever he (Atiku) goes, the state government is behind him.

“From the Governor to the Deputy Governor, the Secretary to the state government, Commissioners, the special advisers and special assistants and all other political appointees and members of the State House of Assembly are behind Atiku Abubakar,” Jimeta said.

Jimeta said the former vice president had done well for the economy of the state and the nation and that the people of Adamawa will reciprocate his generosity.

“Such an important figure in Adamawa State, we as a government have nothing to pay him back, than to support all his political ambitions and to give him our support if he declares to run for any political office,” he said.

The former vice president who is currently attending the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected Edo state governor would be celebrating his 70th birthday in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Atiku is yet to indicate interest for the presidential office come 2019.

Also, the former vice president in a recent move sacked about 120 workers – about 50% of his staff strength – from his company.

The workers were asked to go away as a restructuring exercise for the company (Intel)

The sack, report says may not be unconnected to the economic situation in the country presently.
