She may not be alive to see the results, but she died happy to have done her part to realising something she had long yearned for.
Like a big task on a bucket list achieved and given the historic scale of the election about to go down in the United States, a 90-year-old woman cast her vote for her candidate in the U.S. elections; for the first time in U.S. history, a woman could become the president there — something many never thought they’d be able to see in their lifetimes.
In a post to the National Pantsuit Day Facebook group on Wednesday, member Scott Harris shared a photo of his 90-year-old mother, Anita Harris. In the photo, Anita is all smiles and holding her mail-in ballot for the election. As Scott reveals in the post, she died just days after the photo was taken.
‘My mom. Voting for HRC. She waited 90 years. She passed away last night. She’ll be cheering from above Tuesday [night],’ the caption read.
As Scott explained in an interview with the Huffington Post, his mother had been in hospice care for about eight months before the photo was taken. He added that the outpouring of love and support he’d received after posting it overwhelmed him.
‘What is amazing is that human kindness still exists within this contentious election,’ he said. ‘Just shows ‘Love Trumps Hate.’
