The Delta State House of Assembly today adjourned plenary to Tuesday January 17. 2017 in honour of the late member representing Warri South (1) Constituency, Hon Beatrice Omawumi Udoh who died on Tuesday in a London hospital in the UK.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya while announcing the passing away of their late colleague, said the news of her death came as a shock to members who had earlier prayed during their inauguration that no member would die.
The lawmakers who were mostly clad in black attires to depict their mood, observed a minute silence in honour of their late colleague.
The Speaker later led principal officers and other members to sign a condolence register opened for the late female legislator at the Assembly Complex, Asaba.
In their messages, the members described Hon Udoh as humble, bold and caring member who represented her constituent to the best of her ability, saying they will miss her debate and contributions on the floor of the House.
In an interview, the Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere, Rt Hon Peter Onwusanya representing Osimili South Constituency and Hon Angela Nwaka representing Aniocha South Constituency while mourning her death, prayed God to grant her eternal rest.
Late Hon Omawumi Udoh was elected into the State House of Assembly in 2003 under the platform of the People's Democratic Party PDP. She served as Chairman of various committees including environment, oil and gas and later served as Chief Whip in the 5th Assembly.
She is survived by her husband, children and other relations.
May her gentle soul rest in peace, Amen!.
