The bill for a law to provide for the Delta State Special Offences Court Bill, 2016 Thursday, scaled through second reading at the State House of Assembly presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Monday Igbuya.
Also, the Delta State Forestry Development [Private Participation] and Forestry Trust Fund Bill, 2016 was passed by the House for the third reading.
The Special Offences bill which passed second reading followed a motion moved vy the Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere and seconded by the member representing Warri-South West Constituency, Hon Dan Mayuku was referred to the House Committee on Judicial Matters, while that of Forestry Trust Fund was referred to the House Committee on Environment and Establishment for appropriate legislative actions.
Hon Evance Ivwurie representing Ethiope East who sponsored the bills, averred that the Special Offences Court bill seeks to establish special courts to prosecute environmental offenders.
Hon Ivwurie disclosed that the said bill consists of 11 sections and 3 schedules, adding that the environmental rules and regulations empower the special court to sit in any place convenient to prosecute defaulters who fall under the jurisdiction of such laws.
Also at plenary, a report by the House Committee on Education for the Delta State College of Mosogar bill, 2016 was deferred by the House for further consideration.
The House adjourned plenary to Tuesday next week, December 13, 2016 sequel to a motion moved by Hon Owhefere and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon Festus Okoh.
