THE Delta State Government yesterday disclosed that it has settled the three months pension arrears of retired civil servants and assured workers and pensioners in the state of their December pay on or before Thursday, December 29, 2016.
Disclosing this in an exclusive chat with The Pointer, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour and SERVICOM, Comrade Mike Okeme said, however, that the government may not be able to issue any Christmas bonus owing to the current economic debacle bedevilling the state.
Okeme, who spoke on government’s intent towards workers’ remuneration, said that the state government had, as at yesterday, concluded all arrangements to ensure the security of salaries for workers and pensioners alike in the state.
While describing the civil service as the engine room of any government, Okeme characterised the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa-led government as workers’- friendly which would do anything possible to reward labour.
He said, “We have just paid the old pension scheme up to November and we intend to complete it alongside the payment of civil servants’ salaries this December.”
Okeme called on workers to be patient, saying, the “Delta State government is not heartless that it would not pay workers their salaries. Government is conscious of its responsibility and will at all times deliver on it.
