FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN, OSHIMILI SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ASABA. [14-02-2017]

It is for the information of the public and the good people of Oshimili South Local Government that the misinformation peddled, that the Oshimili South Local Government Arcade has been sold, or converted to a market, are lies sold to the youths, the palace, Ogwa-ukwu and Otu-Ihaza Ahaba, by political gladiators, with the intention of soiling the hard-earned name of the Chairman of the Local Government, Pst [Barr] Chuks . J . Obusom, to those they have collected huge amounts of money and from Chairmanship aspirants, to make them council Chairman, in anticipation of the purported second coming of the chairman. In reaction to this, the office of the Chairman, Oshimili South Local Government, has deemed it fit to keep the populace informed on the true position of matters as relating to the Oshimili South Local Government Arcade.

That from the inception of the Local Government and before, the Oshimili South Local Government Arcade, before now, known as "Government Field", has been the property of the state and Local Government, before now. This is evident by the plaques on the wall at the entrance of the arcade, which before now has been used by Government during march-pasts and other Government functions for decades.

That successive Governments and administrations in the Local Government, at different times, running through that of Chief [ Mrs ] Theodora Giwa-Amu, to Elder Charles Halim, Hon. I. V. Okolo, even up to Hon [Mrs] Chinwe Monu-Olarewaju, have been developing, Managing and reconstructing the Arcade, using the resources of the council, without any form of hindrance or adverse claims from anybody or group, for more than thirty [30] years.

Also, that users of the of the Arcade [private and public] have been applying and making payments to the council, even to the event of the Ninetieth [90th] Birthday of HRM, the Asagba of Asaba, whose application/ Request was granted in Gratias.

Furthermore, that in the bid of the council to restructure the Arcade, in line with the SMART agenda and the URBAN RENEWAL POLICY of the present administration in the state,a design was produced for the restructuring and remodeling of the Arcade, to meet with the modern status of the State Capital Territory. While in progress, the palace invited the Chairman, in reaction to the speculation, that the Oshimili South Local Government Arcade had been sold or intended to be converted to a market. The invitation was however honoured by the Chairman, as the palace expressed their traffic congestion concerns. The Chairman in return assured the palace of going back to the drawing-board, putting into consideration, their concerns and all were satisfied, as the ownership of the Arcade, was never in contention or discuss. Nothing was further, than including the development in the 2017 budget.

It may also be necessary to inform the people of Oshimili South Local Government, that on the ninth [9th] day of January, 2017, Chief [Mrs] Theodora Giwa-Amu, instigated the palace and the Otu-Ihaza, with the false allegation that the Council has sold the Arcade, and in furtherance, changed the already existing name of Oshimili South Local Government Arcade to "Asaba Community Arcade", changed the locks and told shop occupants, that monies meant to be a source of revenue for the Local Government, be paid to the Otu-Ihaza and Ogwa - Ukwu, thereby misappropriating Government funds, for their private use and pockets. On the same day [the 9th of January, 2017], the Council Chairman, Hon [Barr] Chuks Obusom, on observation of developments at the Arcade, called and sought the Iyase of Ahaba, Chief P.I.G. Onyeobi, who categorically stated that the palace had at no time, taken such decision and that to the best of his knowledge, that could be one of those "PDP POLITICS".
