NFSAN DISAGREE WITH ASUU PRESIDENT'S POSITION ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT

National Female Students Association of Nigeria has reacted to the President, Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi's position that many sexual harassment cases are politically motivated therefore, the are not genuine. Prof. went further to challenge any female student being harrased to come up with evidences and present it to their Ethics Committee set up by them.

In  response to that, the President, National Female Students Association of Nigeria, Comr. Idongesit Micah briefing journalists shortly after the National Anti-Corruption Stakeholders' Summit in Abuja yesterday, told reporters that sexual harassment cases are genuine and that there are alot of unreported cases for fear of victimization by lecturers.

She  informed the media that their members has been calling to inform her of what the are passing through in the hands of some randy lecturers. Micah further challenged the incredibity of the Ethics Committee set up by ASUU in some of their branches.

To her, the Committee is made up of lecturers, and how can a female student risk herself of reporting a fellow lecturer to other lecturers.

"Is like ASUU being a judge in their own case" according to her. She urged the President Buhari to assent to the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill being sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo Agege to give female students who are sexual victimize the confidence of reporting cases of abuse without fear because a lot of our female are dropping out of school, some are down graded and some does not even see their results after examination on the premise of missing script.
