    Saraki, Tinubu Storm Uyo For Female Students’ Summit, Monday



    The President of Nigeria’s Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will on Monday, March 6, 2017, lead a host of delegates to the leadership summit of the National Female Students Association of Nigeria in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

    The disclosure which was made in a release issued by the media unit, Office of the President, National Female Students Association of Nigeria, indicated that the event which has as its theme, Female Students and the challenge of bridging leadership gap, billed to be held at the conference hall of the ultra modern e-library complex in Uyo is the first time female students across Nigeria are converging at a singular venue to chart a new direction for the betterment of the nation, prepare female students for leadership responsibilities, promote gender equality as well as discuss other salient issues
    concerning the girl child.

    “It is the gathering of young women who are determined to make a positive change in our society. It is the first ever meeting of female students/leaders across the country to chart a new direction. It is believed that after the summit, female students will be emboldened to seek for leadership position and perform incredibly well.”

    The release noted that the choice of Uyo as host city of the summit is in appreciation of the effort dissipated by the National President of the body, Comrade Idongesit Eno Micah, in the advocacy for gender equality and respect for the rights of the girl child.

    Senator Oluremi Tinubu of Lagos Central Senatorial District, Amb. Unyime Ivy King and Dr. Emem Dominic will deliver keynote speeches.

    Also expected to headline the event is the first ever female President, Students Union Government (SUG) in Northern Nigeria, Comrade Amina Yahaya of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto.
    Student leaders and activists from across Nigeria shall also grace the event.

    While expressing belief that the aims of the event would be achieved, the release lauded Comrade Idongesit Micah’s frontline role in the advocacy for gender equality and elimination of violence against women and female students.

    “Comrade Micah took the advocacy against sexual harassment to the National Assembly. This led to a Bill sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Delta Central Senatorial District. The Bill has passed second reading. She was invited by the Senate to the public hearing for the Bill. It is also on record that she has raised voice severally against cases of child/women abuse.

    These and many more contributions are reaping massive dividends and are making the National Female Students Association of Nigeria to be a vibrant voice in the polity. The upcoming summit will not be an exception as modalities have been put in place to ensure a fruitful exercise.”

    The release called on all female students in Nigeria and the general public to attend the event.
