THE Delta State government has affirmed its resolve to partner with the Nigeria National Volunteer Service (NNSV) and other relevant agencies in ensuring a clean environment in the state.
The Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, stated this when the NNVS team from Abuja accompanied by the State Coordinator of NNVS, Mrs. Joan Ogba paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.
He said the present administration places high premium on sustainable cleanliness and environmental sanitation, and as such, welcomes any agency that will collaborate with the state government to achieve set goals of keeping our environment clean.
The SSG commended the group for choosing Delta State from the South South geo-political zone, maintaining that as a state, “we place high premium on environmental cleanliness and management”.
He charged the group to adequately sensitize the public on the need to keep their surroundings clean at all times, saying that cleanliness is next to godliness.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Mr. Emmanuel Agodi, had said that NNVS, which is domiciled in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), was to promote and encourage national development through volunteerism.
He assured of their commitment in partnering with the state government, saying that they were in the state on a City Changer Campaign which took the team to Summit Junction, Nnebisi Road and Ogbeogonogo Market, Asaba to sensitize, educate and enlighten the public on the need to keep their environment clean at all times to avoid contacting diseases such as cholera and Lassa fever.
In an interview, Mrs. Joan Ogba, said the task of keeping our environment clean should be the collective responsibility of everybody and should not be left for government alone.
She called for more volunteers to register with NNVS in the state, pointing out that rendering selfless service via volunteerism was crucial and pivotal to the betterment of humanity and the society.
