We will never participate in a government that is a product of electoral fraud – Opposition candidates tell Obaseki

Godwin ENOGHEGHASE Obaseki, could this be the reincarnation of Agho Obaseki who challenged Oba Ovonramwen and his son, Prince Aiguobasimwin? His name is in itself an affront on the Oba because in Benin we have OGHOBAGHASE, not ENOGHEGHASE.
The gubernatorial aspirants in the Edo 2016 governorship election, under the aegis of Forum of Edo State Governorship Candidates, have risen from a meeting where they declined subtle offer by APC candidate for them to accept to work with the party in government as commissioner in the Godwin Obaseki cabinet.

In a statement published by the forum (which PDP candidate was absent), titled “RE-OBASEKI RULES OUT OPPOSITION MEMBERS IN HIS CABINET”, the forum distanced itself from the APC government that is being formed by Godwin Obaseki.

The statement by the Forum apparently was a reaction to a recent publication on page 6 of Sunday Vanguard 2nd October, 2016 where the purported winner of the recent Edo State Gubernatorial Election, Mr Godwin Obaseki stated thus: “I will not be able to accept anybody from the opposition as a commissioner in my cabinet”

Obaseki went further to state the reason being that they (opposition) will jeopardize his policies.

Against that backdrop, the forum condemned the APC flag bearer for his reckless utterance.

“We want to state categorically categorically in the strongest and clearest terms that we are responsible/honourable men and will never have any interest or participate in a government that is a product of electoral fraud as was evident in the  just concluded election where voters were financially induced by your party, All Progressive Congress (APC) that preaches “war against corruption”, more so, the result declared by INEC does not reflect the vote and mandate of the electorates.” They said.

The forum held that for the avoidance avoidance of doubt, their group will continue to insist on credible, free, fair elections and good governance as Edo State is greater than any party or individual.
