    DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASSED A BILL REPLACING THE OKPALA-UKU OF UMUKWATA WITH THE TITLE OF THE UKWATA OF UMUKWATA TODAY 9TH OF NOVEMBER 2016



    At today's sitting of DTHA, the bill for the ratification of the Ukwata of Umukwata to replace the Okpala-Uku of Ukwata was passed for the third  time. Hon Engr Kenneth, the deputy majority leader of DTHA representing Bomadi state constituency moved the motion for the bill to be passed. The deputy majority leader of DTHA led the debate for the amendment of traditional rulers council and Chiefs law 2016. According to the led debate,  the traditional rulers council of Delta state have already adopted the title of the Ukwata of Umu-Ukwata to replace the Okpala-Uku of Umukwata.

    The second respondent Hon Pat Ajuda also supported the motion. Narrating how other communities in Delta state have changed their own titles in line with modern reality, mentioning that of Ogwashi-Uku in particular. In his support, the member representing Uvwie star constituency Hon Efe Ofobruku stated that the old system of Okpala-Uku is retrogressive and does not support modern challenges. He ended up his debate by saying he would like Umukwata Kingdom to be as developed as Uvwie Kingdom.

    After the debate the house, unanimously passed the amendment which is a one word / one line amendment. The motion for the passage of the bill was moved by the deputy majority leader Hon Engr Kenneth and seconded by the minority leader Hon Okoh Festus Chukwuyem.

    The house also approved the request of the Delta state governor to present the 2017 Appropriation bill to the house tomorrow 10th November 2016.
