    **STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON AMENDMENT OF NIGER DELTA DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (NDDC) ACT 2000***



    NIGER DELTA REPRESENTATIVES ADVOCATES ADEQUATE FUNDING FOR THE REGION  ***By: John Maxson (Jnr.)***

    ABUJA- Senator Peter Nwaoboshi presided over a stakeholders meeting on amendment of NDDC Act 2000. Speaking in the meeting, Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi, Chairman Committee on NDDC in the Senate House urges every part of the Niger Delta to be assured of an Act that will improve the development of the region after the amendment.

    In attendance are the honourables representing the region in the Senate, Federal House of Representatives, and state assembly including Chiefs and Elders of the community representatives of the region.

    And the Chairman of the committee on NNDC has promised that all the recommendation made will be properly taken care of in the law. He recalled that the assignment of the NDDC, which is to transform the neglected Niger Delta region, was an uphill task that must be met. The chairman argued that the NDDC more than ever, needs adequate funding to embark on aggressive infrastructural development across the region in order to douse current tensions in the area.

    Also, a representative pointed out of having a working blueprint that will serve the region over time, not really training or providing funds without a concrete blueprint for the people, which the committee noted and promised to put every single recommendation into work for the betterment of the region.

    Niger Delta will have a new look and hope for the people of the region with the amendment passed into law.

    Some Major stakeholder present in the session that was held at theSenate Conference Hall 022, were Rt. Hon Leo Ogor, Reps Minority Leader, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, Senator Ndoma Egba - NDDC Chairman, Obong Nsima Ekere - MD/CEO, NDDC, Adjogbe Ajenakevwe, Executive Director in charge of projects.

    Others include Hon. Tim Owhefere, Hon. Evans Iwvurie.
