The fact cannot be veiled that most Agencies at the State level are not given the prime attention deserving of the sterling and devoted efforts exerted by them in meeting up with their establishing mandate. One such Agency that has stood out with meteorically rising achievements that speak is the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission. The fact also stands unambiguous that Nigeria relies greatly on revenue from crude oil sales to fund the economy. The greater percentage of Nigeria’s crude oil exports come from Delta State. It is in the light of this scenario that the sterling efforts of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission is appreciated.
The Managing Director, Olorogun W illiams Makinde, by dint of hardwork and sheer diligence has brought even development to the various oil producing Communities in the State. This has helped significantly stem down the tide of agitations and kidnappings in the State paving way for seamless exploration of petroleum resources. This in turn has had a ripple effect on the overall economy. One would be left to wonder if DESOPADEC had not exerted due effort in the State and oil production dipped the economy of the nation would have been in greater mess. Thus DESOPADEC has contributed in no small measure in cushioning the harsh effects of the economic downturn on the Masses in the oil producing areas of Delta state. This was achieved on the plinth of outstanding performance consultations tailored along the felt needs of the communities.
