Is it not a bit strange that less than eighteen hours to the inauguration of a new administration deemed to have been overwhelmingly elected in Edo State, the general euphoria that ought to engulf the state in general and Benin City in particular is not there?
Driving round the streets of Benin, there is no sign that a monumental event like the swearing in of a new governor is taking place a few hours from now. Rather, what one easily notices are the somber looks of depression, dejection and general feeling of nonchalance on the part of the people. Even members of the APC, are not too excited about the inauguration’. According to members, there was nothing to cause excitement in a party where many of them had been shut out more so, in a situation of intense suspense due to the unpredictable outcome of the pending election tribunal case.
ITV Benin just showed a news telecast of the Street to Street Campaign Ambassadors of the Agberos Populated Congress, APC, led by Pikolo going round Benin streets distributing indomie and biscuits to the people as a way of encouraging them to attend tomorrow’s inauguration. The question is “does an incoming government that was ‘overwhelmingly’ voted for need to bribe with indomie and biscuits those who are alleged to have ‘overwhelmingly’ voted for it before they attend it’s inauguration”? Will the electorates who ‘overwhelmingly’ voted for the party not be too glad to be part of the inauguration of the mandate they ‘overwhelmingly’ and ‘willingly’ gave?
