Over the years, we have seen political appointees both at the state and federal levels who after being appointed to oversee government agencies, embezzle funds for their personal aggrandizement rather than effect a positive change in the lives of the citizenry for whose interest they are supposed to represent.
But in Delta state, the same is not the case especially in the Okowa led government which kicked off in May 2015, one would say the governor made good choices as he was able to bring in the best brains into the state executive council which have translated into massive development across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, thereby, making the "Prosperity for all Deltans" mantra of the administration a reality.
One of the notable administrators in the Okowa led government who has been able key in effectively into the prosperity mantra of this administration is the Delta state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah.
As it is often said that information is power, Ukah has been able to bridge the information gap in the state in less than two years of his appointment to man the state information ministry.
The just concluded 46th National Council on Information which took place in Asaba, the Delta state capital is a clear attestation to his information management prowess.
The meeting with the theme, “Leveraging On Information And Digital Technology To Sustain The Change Agenda Of Government", which had in attendance, Delta state governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammad, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Mrs. A. O. Adesugba, Commissioners for Information across the 36 states of the federation among other high profiled dignitaries who graced the event.
It was as a result of his immense contribution to the success of the NCI meeting that the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture poured encomiums on Mr. Patrick Ukah and the Delta State Government on the successful hosting of the meeting.
According to a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Mrs. A. O. Adesugba, she said that, "the provision of necessary administrative and logistic support by the government of Delta State went a long way in ensuring the overall success of the event".
According to her, "the reception and hospitality of the government and people of the state, coupled with the grand performance at the Gala Night are most cherished in their memories, adding that this has undoubtedly proven that Delta State is indeed 'The Big Heart'".
Patrick Ukah has also established good relationship with journalists in the state which has contributed to good information flow in and around the state. Little wonder his friends refer to him as the "Information Boss".
Ukah made history as the first politician of Okpanam community to be made a Commissioner and was among the first eight commissioners-designate to be appointed by the governor.
This did not come as a surprise to those who are conversant with the leadership qualities embedded in the information enigma as Ukah is seen as one of the few major voices in Anioma Nation.
With an MBA and Bachelor’s Degree from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and a wealth of exposure and experience, Ukah held various positions which include: Board Member Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Chairman NOC Marketing Committee; Chairman Delta State Hockey Federation; Member Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF), Chairman NHF Marketing Committee; Founding chairman, Sports Marketing Guild of Nigeria, among others.
Ukah has acquired several awards in various sectors of endeavour, one of which includes; a Merit Award from Jaycee International. He is a prominent member of Oganihu Anioma where he served as Secretary General for many years, excelling in strong advocacy for equity and justice in governance in the
