    Delta Assembly Passes 2017 Appropriation Bill


    The Delta State House of Assembly in plenary on Wednesday passed the 2017 Appropriation Bill.

    The passing of the Bill was sequel to the adoption of the Appropriation Report by Committee on Appropriations which was presented by it's Chairman, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori.

    The Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere moved for the House to receive the report for further considerations and was seconded Hon. Efe Ofobruku

    Thereafter, the Majority Leader moved for the House to suspend House Rules to enable the House have a speedy passage of the 2017 Appropriation Bill. Subsequently, the Appropriation Bill was read for the third time and passed.

    In a related development, The Delta State Consumer Rights Protection Agency Bill has passed through second reading.

    The member representing Okpe, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori moved a motion for the second reading of the Bill and was seconded by Hon. Evance Ivwurie.

    Speaking during the debate on the Bill, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who is the lead sponsor of the Bill said the Bill seeks to protect consumers, he also said that the Bill will help to compensate consumers in case of damage.

    Speaking in support of the Bill, the member representing Ughelli-South, Comrade Izeze Reuben said that the Bill if pass into law will protect the lives of Deltans and it's residents. Others who spoke in support of the Bill include; Hon. Tim Owhefere, Hon. Pat. Ajudua, Hon. Samuel Mariere, Hon. Dennis Omovie Hon. Ayibatonye Timi, Hon. Evance Ivwurie, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, Hon. Azuka Azaka and Hon. Angela Nwaka.

    The Bill was committed to the Joint Committees on Commerce and Industry and Health and to report back in six weeks.

    The House also received a letter of request from Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, which was read under messages from the governor at the floor of the hallowed chamber by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya who presided over the plenary.

    The letter is for the confirmation of Dennis Abada for appointment as member of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission.

    The sitting also witnessed a motion by the Majority Leader for the adoption of the votes and proceedings of Tuesday, 31st January, 2017 and was seconded by Hon. Eric Oharisi.

    The House was adjourned to Tuesday 7th February, 2017 at 10.00 am following a motion moved by Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere and seconded by Minority Leader, Hon. Okoh Festus.
