Senate seeks review of VP’s N7bn official residence

Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi) yesterday called for the review of the N7billion official residence of the Vice president.

The contract for the construction of the VP’s residence was awarded to Julius Berger during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. The contract is yet to be completed and over N6 billion has been paid.

Speaking to Senate reporters yesterday, he said the gate house of the official residence was also awarded at over N250million.

“We are going to call for a review of that contract and Julius Berger said they are going to build a concrete building. I went there with a hammer and I hit on the wall and I saw block. So, that investigation is ongoing.

“We want to make sure that government is not being raped and short-changed. So we are definitely going to call for a review of the contract because this is a rape of the taxpayers’ money,” he said.

Melaye who said they are also looking into the official residences of the Senate President and Deputy Senate President said the contract needed to be reviewed.
