    PRESS RELEASE: DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT, NOT OWING PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

    The attention of the Delta State PDP Chairmens' Forum has been drawn to the news making the round across many social media platforms that the Delta state Government owes Primary school teachers salaries by dying opposition party APC in Delta State. For the avoidance of a doubt, the Delta state has no financial obligations to the primary school teachers, as it is the sole responsibility of the Local Government Councils and the Federal Government to cater for the payment of the salaries of Primary school teachers.

    Before now, when the Local Government Councils were buoyant, the salaries of the teachers were paid promptly, but unfortunately with the drop in oil price and subsequent reduction in allocations to both the State and the Local Government Councils, this obligation could no longer be met as at when due as we know things will improve by God's grace. It is most unfortunate that some disgruntled elements had have to use this trying times as an opportunity to score cheap political points by trying to set the people against the state government with the numerous lies the spread out to unsuspecting Deltans

    The Delta State Governor in his usual fatherly magnanimity, had hitherto as a result of the above mentioned, timeless augmented the payment of this salaries whenever the state government had sufficient funds in line with the SMART Agenda of the Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa led administration which is aimed at enthroning a legacy of Prosperity for All Deltans. It was not the legal obligation of the state as is being rumored in some quarters. It is worthy to note that these challenges cuts across the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria.

    Also the Delta state Governments policies aimed at sanitising the educational sector is one major initiative that has been applauded by all well meaning Nigerians, and Deltans in particular.

    It is pertinent to note that the Governor Okowa administration has constantly engaged the Joint Account and Allocation Committee, JAAC, to discover the possible way of putting an end to the issues of the inability of the Local Government Councils to pay salaries.

    The Delta State Government has through many ways tried as much as possible to reduce the suffering of both the primary school teachers and the workers of the 25 Councils in the state and it would not relent in doing this.

    The Delta State Government by this, calls on all to disregard any and every news that attempts to portray that the Delta state Government owes Primary school teachers.

    Signed;
    Comr Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu
    Publicity Secretary  ( PDP Chairmens' Forum Delta State)
