DTHA ADOPTS MOTION TO HALT EDO STATE ENCROACHMENT OF UMUTU FARMLAND IN DELTA STATE:

Earlier today the member representing Ukwuani State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Alphonsus Ojo moved a motion of urgent importance at the plenary of the DTHA.

The motion urged the Delta State Governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, his deputy Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, the Attorney General of the state, the Surveyor General of the state, the Secretary of the State Boundary Commission and other relevant agencies of government to urgently intervene and stop the Edo State government from encroaching on Delta State land by leasing Umutu farm land in Delta State to Michelin Rubber company under the guise of a Public Private Partnership agreement.

In moving the motion Hon. Dr. Alphonsus Ojo stated that the Edo state government in contravention of the existing Boundary demarcations between her and Delta State has entered into agreement to lease the Umutu farmland on the borders of the two states to Michelin Rubber Company on a Public Private Partnership agreement in total disregard of existing/extant boundary limits.

He informed the House that the current action of the Edo state government was capable of breaching the existing peaceful co-existence between the Urhonigbe people and Umutu in particular and between Delta and Edo states especially as the youths of Umutu and indeed the entire Umutu Community are agitated over the issue and ready to resist the said lease agreement.

While responding to the motion and argument put forward by Hon. Ojo, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya stated that Hon. Ojo has presented the position of Umutu rather eloquently with facts and evidence to buttress his motion and therefore require no debate.

The motion was seconded by Hon. Ruben Izeze (Ughelli South) and was unanimously adopted.
