    Friday 23 June 2017

AN ADDRESS DELIVERED BY BARR. ERNEST OGWEZZY, COMMISSIONER BUREAU FOR SPECIAL DUTIES DELTA STATE,ON THE OCCASION OF PRESENTATION OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO VICTIMS OF FLOOD, FIRE, HERDSMEN ATTACK AT OKPANAM, OKPANAM ROAD, OGHARA AND UTAGBA UNO ON FRIDAY 23RD JUNE 2017

I wish to on behalf of the state emergency management agency welcome all of you once again to this financial relief assistance  ceremony.

I recall that in the recent past, some of you suffered from one disaster to the other ranging from fire, flood and rain storm disaster. Today's ceremony is for us to present a token of financial assistance on behalf of SEMA and Delta state Government to the victims of the disaster.

Victims refer to as ; Chief S.N Ebinum,  Theophlilus Okey Azubuine, Madam Ogbenekevwe Wjegbune James Nwanze.

However it is sad to note that one of the victims, who would have been here present to receive the little token we intend to give this morning, passed on two days ago, after approval has been  given for him to also benefit. But be that as it may, the children of the deceased, Chief S.N Ebinum, who is the proprietor of ( Njede farms Ltd), has been contacted by me and the manager of the farm-Mr. Obi Augustine, has been nominated to receive the token.

We still like to put on record that the relief assistance been given today as earlier stated is not in any way intended to be a compensation to what ever disaster that anybody may have suffered, but a mere gesture on the part of government of Delta state by way of showing concern to the plight of the victims and to bring succor to them. It is for this reason that we once again acknowledge the efforts of the state Governor Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for always making it possible for us through the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA to reach out to victims of disaster.

We commend and remain grateful to his Excellency for his magnanimity in this respect.

Let me use this opportunity once again to appeal to all  Deltans that trees and flowers should be planted within their living environment so as to reduce the  adverse effects of windstorms whenever it occurs on our  properties, at this juncture may i reinstate that the raining season is here and NIMET has predicted and warned that there is likely to be flooding affecting some state of the federation which includes Delta state.

In this regards Deltans  living around the river banks or any river prone area are again advice to relocate out of these places to avoid the disaster that may come with the  anticipated predicted flooding

it is hoped that the people concerned i.e those living within the flood prone area shall abide by  this timely warning, as government shall not be responsible for any thing that may occurs to them.."as a result their failure/refusal to heed to this timely warning.

"A stitch in time them say saves nine". Thank  you

A minute silence was observed in honor of late Chief S.N Ebinum.
