There is no gain saying that one of the pillars of democracy is effective participation in the government by the people. Gov. Okowa has set a standard in the political landscape of Nigeria by being the first to embark on town hall meetings across the 25 local government areas of the state prior to the general elections. It is on record that upon assumption of office the Governor organized town hall meetings across the state.
Town hall meetings provide elected representatives the opportunity to engage the people in fruitful interaction wherein they can receive feedback from a larger proportion of the people. This is the primary reason Gov Okowa adopted the town hall meeting not just to celebrate his second anniversary by having direct interaction with the people, but to keep to his promise during the electioneering campaign days for the office of Governor to reach out to the unreachable.
In marking his second anniversary as Governor of Delta State Sen Ifeanyi Okowa began another round of town hall meetings beginning with Isoko North which will run across the 25 local government areas. The importance of the town hall meetings cannot be overemphasized as it has provided the people an avenue for direct interaction with the Governor on the policies and programmes of his administration, as well as the challenges facing the government, it's programs and intentions for the future. The people also have the opportunity to relate directly their problems and challenges to the Governor with the aim of providing the necessary solutions to them.
From the places visited so far, by His Excellency, the impact of the town hall meetings have been felt both at the governance level and by the citizens whose demands were given priority attention by Dr Okowa. The meetings held in a very friendly and conducive environment where questions relating to certain actions of government were made bare to the people and those policies and programmes which are of no benefit to the people and the state discontinued.
Okowa is a man who understands the dynamics and intricacies of politics, and as such, much premium is placed on the people by the government in arriving at any decision by his administration. From the foregoing it is evidently clear that Okowa is running an all inclusive government wherein inputs from his frequent interaction with the people, form the major trust of his policies and programmes. As a man who is vast and well grounded in Executive, Legislative and administrative business, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa no doubt has set a standard and raised the bar in deeping our democratic process by his style of leadership and governance
