SKILL ACQUISITION PENACEA TO UNEMPLOYMENT CRISIS --GOV. OKOWA

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged youths in the country to key into the skill acquisition programmes as the easiest way out of the employment crisis plaguing the country.

Governor Okowa made the call in Warri at a One-Day Awareness and Sensitization Seminar on Skills Acquisition with theme, “Even A Professor Needs A Skill” organized by the Political Aide (Student Affairs) and the Political Aide, Special Duties (Media), Comrade  Okoh Ezekiel Oghenetega Oghenetega and Ossai Ovie Success respectfully.

The governor represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Hon. Tam Brisibe, lauded the theme of the Seminar said “Your certificate is good, but learning a skill will guarantee your future because, these days, after graduation, job is not guaranteed and even when you are working, salaries are not also guaranteed,”, adding “if you give a man fish, you feed him for a day, but when you teach him how to fish, then you have fed him for life.”

He reiterated that the theme of the Seminar underscores the importance of skill acquisition in solving the unemployment crisis ravaging the world, especially, Nigeria, asserting, “the topic is apt and highly commendable; the high rate of unemployment has defied educational certificates, because, we are aware that statistics has shown that if we don’t enhance our campaign for skills acquisition, we will have a major employment crisis in the near future.”

“It is imperative that Government alone cannot employ our teeming unemployed youths that is why I am happy that a large number of students turned up for the Seminar; the programme is no doubt, more important than any lecture you have missed today, because you may graduate from this school with a certificate, but that certificate will not guarantee you a job,” he added at the occasion which was well attended by the management and students of the College.
