    DELTA STATE SCHOOL OF NURSING, AGBOR TO GET ACCREDITATION SOON --AZINGE




    All is now set for the accreditation team from the Nigerian Council of Midwifery to visit the State School of Nursing, Agbor, Delta State to assess the readiness of the institution to secure accreditation for the school.

    The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge made this known yesterday when he visited the Palace of the Obi of Owa, HRM Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor II to intimate him on the efforts government is making to bring to reality the accreditation of school of Nursing, Agbor.

    According to the Commissioner, the State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa is solidly behind the Ministry in this regard which is evident in the completion of a 300 bed space hostel facility in the school, its furnishing and the provision of a conducive learning and work environment for the students and Staff respectfully.

    Explaining the rational for the efforts at getting the accreditation, Dr. Azinge revealed that on yearly basis candidates who had good scores during the entrance examination are denied admission into the school of Nursing, Agbor due to limited spaces.

    He stated that almost 2,000 candidates applied for the just concluded entrance examination for the three State Schools of Nursing with a little over 600 students who applied for the 30 available space for School of Nursing, Agbor.

    Commissioner Azinge said that the nod from the accreditation team would lead to the increase in the admission capacity from 30 to about 100 spaces which would again translate to more students getting admission and hence engaged with meaniful activities that will better their lives.

    This according to him will in turn lead to the availability of more qualified nurses at the disposal of health institutions in and outside the State that can benefit from their services thereby improving the health indices in the State in this regard.

    Dr. Azinge added that after the State gets the accreditation for Agbor, it will commence the process for the Schools of Nursing in Eku and Warri to get accredited also.

    Responding the Obi of Owa, HRM Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor II thanked the Commissioner and his team for their efforts and pledged the support of the palace and the entire people of Ika land in this endeavor to actualize the accreditation of the State School of Nursing, Agbor.
    According to the Obi,the accreditation project is important to the people of Delta North and Delta State in general explaining that a good product does not need much advertisement compared to a not too good product.

    He stated that the churning out of more qualified nurses from the institution will no doubt go a long way in improving the wellbeing of residents of the State health wise.

    Speaking also the Chairman of Ika-South Local Government Area, Hon. Fred Ofume said the Council is also committed to see the project through since it has the approval of His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and also is a project that will benefit the good people of Ika land.

    The Commissioner was accompanied in the visit by the functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Charles Ofili, the Principal, State School of Nursing, Agbor, Mrs.  Tessy Onwuka, and other officials of the Ministry.
