    MONKEYPOX: DELTA COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH VISITS FMC ASABA, OWA-ALERO ***Assures Deltans of state Governments commitment to the health of the people



    The Government of Delta state has urged those residing within its boundaries not to panic with respect to the report on the suspected case of monkeypox in the State.

    The honourable commissioner for Health Delta State, Dr. Nicholas Azinge, gave the calming statement earlier today during his visit to patients who had  symptoms similar to monkeypox virus at the federal medical centre Asaba, and Owa-Alero in Ika North East LGA. It would be recalled that this symptoms had hitherto caused great panic amongst residents of the area. 

    He noted that a total of six cases had been reported with five being from Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, where four are from Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South and One from Ibusa in Oshimili North and another one from Owa-Alero in Ika North East, He reiterated that none of them had been confirmed to be monkeypox and the remain mere suspicion.

    While urging Deltans to be calm but also remain vigilant, Dr. Azinge, Speaking to newsmen after the visit today at Owa-Alero, called on Deltans not to panic, that the State Government had put in place measures to curtail the suspected cases, adding that Blood had been drawn from the suspected victims for confirmatory tests  at the hospital. "We have gone tlround a few select hospitals in the state, and as you can see, although there had been some little suspicion of Monkeypox, there is no confirmed case. This are all hearsays. I want to assure Deltans that there is no case of monkey pox in the state."

    He further noted that the states Ministry of Health is committed to the betterment of the health of the Deltans populace in line with the SMART Agenda of the Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa led administration.
