The Chairman, House Committee on Works of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Evance Ochuko Ivwurie, today presided over the 2018 proposed budget defence of the State Ministry of Works and the Direct Labour Agency (DLA), just as the Committee has directed the Contractors handling the Asaba International Airport to be present at the Airport project site on Wednesday, November 15th 2017 and Okpanam Road Construction / Drainage projects on Thursday, November 16th, 2017 at 2.00pm prompt respectively.
The budget defence was well attended by the Chairman, Hon. Chief Evance Ochuko Ivwurie and the Vice Chairman Hon. Engr. Oboro Preyor. Other members in attendance includes: Hon. Barr. Daniel Mayuku, Hon. Olorogun Dennis Omovie, Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri, Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwobi and Hon. Kennedy Daubry, Member.
Speaking in the State House of Assembly Complex, the Chairman Hon. Ivwurie who is also the honourable member representing Ethiope East State Constituency in the State House of Assembly welcomed the Commissioner and Staff of the Ministry of Works to the Delta State House of Assembly, Asaba.
Hon. Ivwurie said the proposed budget estimate for the Ministry of Works in the year 2018 budget is N49.3 Billion which is earmarked by His Excellency Senator Dr Arthur Ifeanyichukwu Okowa, Governor of Delta State to sustain the current momentum of the State Government in infrastructural developmental projects especially the construction of network of rural and urban roads across the State and to also consolidate on the ongoing rehabilitation works on the deplorable roads in the State.
The Chairman, explained that if we must have quality, standard and effective service delivery to Deltans; the Ministry of Works needs to be well funded and it is indeed well funded by the State Government to deliver exceptional standard quality roads and bridges.
"This administration of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is people oriented government and development driven with focus on quality service delivery and substantial dividends of democracy to all Deltans," Hon. Ivwurie assured.
Hon. Ivwurie disclosed that good roads network is an integral part of good governance and key to economic growth while promising that the Committee will partner with the Ministry of Works to move Delta State to an enviable heights.
While commending the Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye for his intelligence, calm spirit, proactive and positive approach to works, the Chairman urged the Ministry of Works and State House Committee on Works to synergize together in moving the State forward.
The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye wasted no time in analyzing and defending the budget as did the Director, Delta Central of Direct Labour Agency, Engr Blessing Enamuotor Ph.D who represented the Director General of Direct Labour Agency (DLA), Rt. Hon. Frank Enekorogha who was unavoidably absent.
Meanwhile, the DTHA House Committee on Works directed the Contractor handling the Asaba Airport project, and the honourable Commissioner to appear at the Asaba Airport project site on Wednesday, November 15th 2017 at 2.00pm prompt for an inspection/evaluation of work done so far vis a vis funds released to the Contractor.
