DTSG PROMISES N5, 000 MONTHLY STIPENDS TO DELTANS IN HEALTH TRAINING INSTITUTIONS

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Ministry of Health, Delta State, Sir (Dr.) Nicholas Azinge, has disclosed that the State Government is set to continue with the payment of N5, 000 (Five Thousand Naira) monthly allowances to indigenes of the State studying in health training Institutions situated in the State.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony of the State School of Nursing, Eku, the Commissioner for Health, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Minnie Oseji, said that this was done in order to motivate the students to put their best in the course of their training and Clinical practice.

He said: “The Delta State Government is committed to providing effective and qualitative health care services to all its citizens in the State.

“It is in keeping with this goal that Government has intensified its drive to produce highly skilled and qualified health-care providers to meet its health-care needs.

“The State Government has provided all the basic training institutions under the Ministry of Health with basic equipment and facilities. To build on its previous achievements, the State Government has always made provisions in respect of educational health institutions in the ministry’s budget to meet their pressing needs and be granted full accreditation status by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.”

Continuing, the Commissioner said: “In pursuance of the availability of adequate and qualified teaching staff members for the educational health Institutions in the State, government has continued to grant in-service training opportunities for all those willing to train to whatever level of academic qualification they desire.”

He added: “I am quite aware of the Delta State Government’s successful hosting of the workshop organized by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria on the implementation of the new curricula for training of Post Basic Nurses, Post Basic Midwives and General Nurses, which took place in Asaba from 31st October to 2nd November, 2017.

“I am also aware that our Nurse and Midwife educators were in attendance. I therefore urge the Educators to maximally impart the knowledge gained in producing well prepared professional nurses and midwives for qualitative health care delivery.

He urged the students, especially the matriculants to “reciprocate Government’s huge financial investment in the health institutions by being loyal, respectful to authority-figures, maintain peace and live in harmony in the pursuit of their chosen career.”
