Amai Traditional Council has passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Governor of Delta State H.E. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Council, Ogbuefi Chukwudi Dafe for their laudable efforts to resolve the aged crisis that has over the decades, cutting across centuries bedeviled Amai and her neighbouring communities. The Council commended them for working with the recommended option of demarcating the disputed lands and boundaries erections, which according to them is a toxic for the much needed peace and signs of good leadership.

In a meeting held at the Palace of the Igwete, the Council commended Ogbuefi Chukwudi Dafe for his intervention to resolve the aged dispute amicably and timely through his recent moves in facilitating the process of demarcating the disputed lands and erecting boundaries, partnering with the Delta State Government peace committee.

The Council reaffirmed their resolve in cooperating with the Governor and the Executive Chairman to ensure that the disputed lands are demarcated in order for the State to redirect her focus in Ukwuani LGA and to enable a lasting peace with their neighbours.

The Council showered encomiums on the Executive Governor of Delta State H.E. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, describing him as a champion of peaceful coexistence and a prudent manager of finance and commended him for his patriotism for the State, while equally describing the Executive Chairman as not just a champion of peaceful coexistence but a pioneer.

The Council stressed the role of peace, dialogue and tolerance in the development of peaceful coexistence, pointing that dialogue decreases our disagreements with one another in order to develop mutual respect, oneness and love, overcoming hate and conflict. The Council said that in line with the ideology of the Igwete to have a civilised and rebirth Amai Kingdom devoid of hostility and wars, Amai will henceforth work towards the elimination of inter-communual tensions by passionately cooperating with the State Government, overlooking certain things in order for success to be recorded which will pave way for total reconciliation and rebirth of Amai Kingdom.

The paramount ruler, HRM Paul Solomon Ifeneziuche (Igwete of Amai Kingdom) while speaking called on the Peace Committee to work in ensuring that each communities are treated equally, which according to the monarch will serve as panacea to peace, reconciliation and unity, afterwards.

The paramount ruler appealed to the communities involved to develop an atmosphere of mutual respect and build positive attitudes toward each other, even if they had a long history of conflicts. The Monarch said that the credibility of the Peace Committee is on the line and prioritising conflict prevention is indeed a necessity. He noted that the State Government had for decades focused largely on responding to conflicts in Ukwuani LGA, which has deprived the affected communities from benefiting the dividends of democracy to some extent.  “We can't afford an ever growing list of crises turning into violent conflict and needless human misery. Investing in prevention is not only morally right, but also smart, economically sound and sustainable thing to do", the Monarch said.

Speaking further, the Monarch quoted Jimmy Cathy; "War may be necessary, but no matter how necessary it may be, it's always an evil, never a good". We will not learn to live together by fighting each others. We're consanguinity, one consanguineous people, Igwete said.

The Monarch commended the Chiefs of Amai Kingdom, the youths and the entire Kingdom for their cooperation, as the Council, pledged their cooperation with the State Government and as well passed a vote of confidence on Delta State Government.

Several speakers (Chiefs) welcomed the Council’s
comprehensive peace reviews, saying they provided clear support for a conceptual change, including the abandonment of conflict management in favour of prevention and tackling the root efforts of conflict in order to arrive and achieve a permanent peace.
