Dear vice Chancellor Delsu, Rector of Polytechnics, Heads of other tertiary institutions and student leaders.

The clamour for free Education or introduction of tuition fees is on. The truth remains bitter and belling the cat is a bigger challenge. Education is an essential commodity as ignorance is more expensive. A worthless free Education is a plague that lasts a lifetime. Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge is not free. Tdays Convenant University, Afe Babalola university,  others pay fees. The masters, phd abroad is alot of money. Federal Universities pay fees. Fees are funds paid to run such institution. Government has a duty to regulate institutions. Best practice ends with regulation.

Delta state has one University with three campuses, three polytechnics and other health, marine institutions making it an academically friendly axis. Without proper funding such institutions cannot offer the zenith. Available statistics shows that what comes from federal allocation and the addition from IGR  manages to pay the wagebill. The beneficiaries are less than 10% of the entire population of Delta state which is unfair to the rest. Introducing 10 thousand for colleges of Education, 20 thousand  for polythecnics, and 25 thousand Naira for Universities as tuition fees starting from 2016/2017 ie new intakes to sustain and guarantee a more qualitative Education is a tough step but in the right direction. Delta state has the lowest fees in south south and south east axis.

The statistics are there. The high income grades and even the middle class have their wards in United kingdom, Ghana and private institutions. They pay very hugh fees and churning out first class degrees to compete in same labour market. Some in our state universities can afford a top up or masters abroad. Delta is having its fair share of the recession but Govt is making sure the burden is manageable.

 Gentlemen I took the gauntlet to talk on this unpopular issue because I believe that is the way to go. Some institutions acceptance fee is more than Delsu tuition fee. There is no alternative to quality education. Dnt be deceived. When you look at the Forex, Energy market, population, growing need for infrastructures, human capital need then you realise that we must do well to implement this policy.

The Govt understands the need to cushion the effects of this policy and immediately signed the bursary payments which will come after the verifications. Together as a people we can better our Educational standard.
