DELTA State government is set to embark on massive construction and rehabilitation of roads, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah has said.
Briefing the press on Friday (21/10/16) in Asaba on the outcome of the state executive council meeting which was chaired by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and held in Asaba, Mr Ukah disclosed that the construction of roads was in line with the urban renewal agenda of the government.
According to him, "the request for the construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainages across the three senatorial districts of the state have been approved by Exco ."
He stated that the road construction was important ahead of the yuletide season, stating that Governor Okowa's administration would never compromise on its efforts to make Delta cities rank among the best in the world.
The Commissioner listed the roads to include Rehabilitation of Ozoro/Oleh Road in Isoko North and Isoko South LGAs; Rehabilitation/Construction of Amawha Layout-Ideze Road with Drainage at Oleh, Isoko South LGA; Rehabilitation of Charles Street with drainage at Agbor, Ika South LGA; Rehabilitation of Oha-Orerokpe Oviore Road (with Bridge) in Okpe, Okpe LGA; Construction of 19.5km Township Roads in Burutu, Burutu LGA; Rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Obutobo II – Obutobo i – Sokebolou – Yokri Road in Burutu, Burutu LGA.
He also used the occasion to call on journalists to publicize the forthcoming National Council of Information meeting which will be hosted by Delta State, assuring that all measures have been put in place for the event to be successful.
"Exco also approved the hosting of the National Council of Information meeting and I can tell you that our Governor will personally declare the meeting open which will last from 26th to 29th October, 2016 and will be capped with a gala night," Mr Ukah said.
Fielding questions from Journalists, Mr Ukah said Governor Okowa's administration was committed to engaging in positive actions and has provided window of opportunities for people who bought government land from individuals to regularize their documents, noting that it was wrong for people to build houses without approved building plans and required government approvals.
