Igbuya Stresses Need For Legislature, Media Synergy

THE Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya, has placed emphasis on the need for a legislature and mass media synergy in order to achieve good governance.
Igbuya revealed that plans were already in the pipeline to review the 1995 Edict which brought The Pointer into the news stand, to conform to contemporary standard practices and current realities.

The Speaker, made the assertion yesterday, when he played host to the Board of Directors of the Delta State Printing and Publishing Company Limited (DPPCL) publishers of The Pointer Newspaper titles, led by the Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) David Oghenekevwe, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the state assembly complex, Asaba yesterday.

He enjoined journalists and media houses to key into the view on standard journalistic practices in order to stem the corruption foundation and downward plunge currently bedevilling the morals of the profession.
The first among equals, Igbuya however charged the board not to relent in pursuing a better Pointer newspaper in order to propel it to greater heights.

He said, “Take statistics of the past, the present and the future of The Pointer and believe you me, when all these are put in view, you will excel.”
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman, Board of Directors DPPCL, Dr. David Oghenekevwe, said that the board is not unaware of the myriad of problems currently posing as hindrance to the success of the organization.
According to him, the courtesy visit is informed by the need to intimate the Speaker and by extension, the honorable House on the need to heighten pressure toward putting laws in place to support the current reality of strife of the company.
He, however, stated the resolve of the board to work tooth and nail in securing a brighter and better future for the company.
