The monthly general meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ika North East Local Government Area ended with shouts of joy and happiness as some deserving members were today empowered with various cash sums of money to help them start up their businesses. This is in keeping in line with the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led government's SMART agenda of prosperity for all Deltans.
While handing the cash sums to the beneficiaries, the Peoples Democratic Party chairman in the area , Mr. Godwin Ogadi said this is the beginning of good things to come as more empowerment will come soon to ensure that all the wards in the LGA are carried along.
According to him, the empowerment came from Mr. Ifeanyi Eboigbe, the Director of Protocol, Government House, Asaba, himself ( chief Ogadi) and other political appointees from from the LGA who deemed it imperative to alleviate the sufferings of the people especially those who have acquired some skills but could not open their businesses because of financial constraints. The sum of one hundred thousand (N100, 000) each was given to five deserving persons while others went home with twenty thousand naira (N20,000) each to settle Issues such as school fees. Amongst those empowered are Miss Efem Joy, ward 6 and Mr. Abel Nwachukwu, ward 9 and others from various wards.
Chief Godwin Ogadi, while delivering a keynote address harped on the need for commitment, loyalty and dedication to the party that earned the successful persons the empowerment and implored the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money by putting it into the purpose it was meant for and not to disappoint those who painstakingly went this far to put smiles on their faces.
Speaking further, he said other political appointees should emulate this gesture to reduce the number of persons seeking empowerment believing that things can only get better. He called for total, unalloyed and unflinching support for governor Okowa whom he said is working round the clock to reposition the state.
In his words, amidst strong economic downturn, governor Okowa is not rellenting in his irrevocable commitment to ensuring that Deltans truly prosper. He said the interaction with the governor and from every plan, things will pick up again as president Buhari will be in the Niger-Delta region soon to see how the problem of the unwantom destruction of Oil installations and facilities by militants that has crippled the state's economy can be solved .
Chief Godwin Ogadi, who said the monthly general meeting will henceforth be going from ward to ward beginning with Owa Oyibu on the 30th of November said at every meeting, members will empowered . He also disclosed that the state's PDP chairman, Barrister Kingsley Esiso will visit the LGA on the 11th of same month and urged all and sundry to come out enmass to welcome the state chairman.
The hallmark of the meeting was the his appreciation of the party executives in the LGA who he said have been working tirelessly with him.
