THE Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Comission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, has revealed why Warri Wolves failed to avoid relegation in the recently concluded 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Addressing newsmen in his office in Asaba, on Tuesday (Oct 11, 2016), Chief Okowa who spoke through the commission's Director, Information & Public Relations, Mr. Sunday Edoge
disclosed that fourteen players left the team. He said: ''14 key players left Warri Wolves for another team''.
“It was unfortunate our team relegated, but there was nothing we could have done to save the team.”
It would be recalled that the Seasiders defeated Ikorodu United 1-0 on the last day of the season, but that wasn’t enough to rescue coach Mansur Andullahi from playing in the Nigeria National League next season.
Continuing, he said Delta state participated actively in all sporting activities. ''The victory of Delta State contingent to the recently concluded 2nd edition of the National Youth Games in Illorin, Kwara State, is in line with the state's new brand identity which has sports as one of it's major components.''
