CONGRATULATIONS NIGERIAN FEMALE STUDENTS AS THE WORLD CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS DAY TODAY

I bring the entire Nigerian Female Students and other student leaders across the country sincere and warm felicitations as you all celebrate the International Students Day today with diverse activities around your campuses. The annual November 17 as the International Students Day  for Students began in 1941 when the Nazi government stormed the dormitories of the University of Praque in what was then known as Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic).

More than 1,200 students were sent to concentration camps, 9 student representatives were executed on the spot, the university was shot down and the building were used by the German occupation forces. Since that time, the theme of the global day for students has always revolved around efforts to achieve peace, equality and freedom not just for students but also for peoples of the world. I seize this opportunity to urge the Federal Government to look deeply into our education sector.

There has been lots of discrepancies in the sector ranging from our curriculum, poor funding, fees increment by federal, state and private institutions. Currently in the country, the Academic Union of Universities ASUU are embarking on a one (1) week warning strike. Its the students and our parents that suffer more by this actions. Hence, I call on all students while agitating for their right at all times, to be constructive and law abiding. They should use the three CCC approach, which is Consultation, Consolidation before Confrontation. I also call on all Nigerian Female Students to support their fellow female student in all their political and academic endeavors.

This year, we have recorded a good number of female student leaders emerge as Students Union Government Presidents, Acting SUG Presidents, Presidents of various departments, faculties and Associations. And their leadership has been so wonderful. Women deserve the best. Happy International Students Day.
