ONLINE USERS : THE URGENT NEED TO APPLY DECORUM AND FACTS BEFORE REPORTAGE

    By Patriot Dantes Odogwu.
The doing-well of senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa in office as Delta state Executive Governor cannot be overemphasised . From day to day, he proves himself as a square peg for a square hole of adequate and commensurate dimension. His wealth of experience of several years in government at various strata decorates him for the job and being an enigma on the job marks the beginning of description of his prowess and potentials.

From Agriculture to Business, Commerce, Industry, Community development, Roads construction, Youths empowerment and Educational advancement to mention but a few, Senator Okowa's testimonial in less than two years in office is impeccable and second-to-none. By various practices like STEP, YAGEP and other policies of Okowa's SMART agenda he has succeeded in moving Delta State forward .

Today, Delta State is one of the few states meeting-up  in the regular payment of salaries to civil servant . The hope of improvement is very bright for all sectors of government endeavours under Okowa's leadership. However, in trying to positively advertise and declare the good works of senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, some online users have reported and published ignorantly, especially on the social media without verification and in most cases done that in quantum of errors and this is sickening and lately embarrassing.

Not verifying claims before publication can send the wrong message . It therefore, becomes of great imperative that social media users and practitioners with the pro-Okowa team inclusive practice or play by the rules of decorum in reportage to avoid running afoul of the ethics of the good job being done online . In all this, the line of decency, clarity and authentication of report should be toed and that is the essense of this piece.

Certain unimportant pictures and reports flying online in recent times should not be posted on the cyberspace if it has nothing to do with the governor's SMART agenda.

The governor like any other person reserves the right to his privacy and it will be absurd to divulge his private life to the public in the name of promoting him.

In summary, online users, especially the pro-Okowa's should in the interest of good governance scrutinise their reports and behave like adult colleagues in posts and reports before feeding the gullible public.

Thank you. Long live Delta state.
