Security Beefed Up In Abuja Ahead Of ECOWAS Sumit

Security is being beefed up in and around Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital ahead of the Summit of Ecowas Heads of States and Government. Top on the Agenda will be the Gambian Transition as well as regional cooperation among member States.

There are Indications that the Gambian President Col Yahya Jammeh may not make to this year’s Ecowas summit taking place in Abuja  as part of measures to mount pressure on him to relinquish power to the President Elect Adama Barrow.

In same vein the UN has cancelled the visit of the Gambian Army Chief Gen Ousman Badjie to his troops serving with the United Nation Mission in Dafur Sudan.

Earlier in the week, Some heads of State in the West African Subregion arrived Banjul in a failed bid to persuade him to hand over power to Mr Barrow. Col Jammeh who took power in a military coup has stay in power for 22 years.
