    Delta State Water Bill Passes 2nd Reading


    The Delta State House of Assembly at today's plenary passed the Delta State Water Bill into second reading.

    The passing of the Bill through second reading was sequel to a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere for the second reading of the Delta State Water Bill and was seconded by Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri .

    Speaking during the debate on the Bill, the Majority Leader said that the essence of the Bill is to regulate water services across the state and to enable the state key in properly to the National Water and Sanitation Policies of the Federal Government. The bill is to promote all state and federal laws as it concerns water and the provision of water services across the state. The bill seeks to regulate the standard of water to ensure that consumer is adequately protected from fake.

    Speaking in support of the bill, the member representing Oshimili-North, Hon. Pat. Ajudua adopted all the submissions and applauded the Majority Leader over the Bill, she pointed that water is very important in our day-to-day life and it can never be over emphasised. She also stated that the bill will bring about quality control and standardization of water. Also speaking in support of the bill, the member representing Ughelli-North1, Hon. Samuel Mariere also said that the bill seeks to deal with the safety and health of Deltans in terms of water consumption.

    Others who spoke in support of the bill include; Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri and Hon. Evance Ivwurie.

    The bill was committed to the committee on Water Resources and to report in four weeks.

    In another development, the member representing Ethiope East, Hon. Evance Ivwurie moved for the second reading of the Delta State Private Education Institutions Bill and was seconded by the member representing Ughelli-South, Comrade Izeze Reuben. Thereafter the bill was committed to committee on Eduction and to report in four weeks after a debate by the sponsor of the bill, Hon. Evance Ivwurie and others who spoke in support of the bill. They include; Comrade Izeze Reuben, Hon. Oboro Preyor, Hon. Pat. Ajudua, Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri and Hon. Peter Uviejitobor.

    The Majority Leader thereafter moved a motion for the adoption of the vote and proceedings of Wednesday, 25th January 2017 and was seconded by Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and was unanimously adopted by the house.

    The House was adjourned to Wednesday 1st February, 2017 at 10.00 am following a motion moved by Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere and seconded by Hon. Emeka Nwaobi.
