Delta state Government under the supervision of the Hon. Commissioner for Environment Hon Barr John Nani in Company of the Environmental Sanitation Taskforce Chairman Comr Kingsley Odiaka Iweka and Mrs. F. Atigan Asst. Director Min. Of Enviroment today, began the clearing of sand dumped by the Midian along DSC expressway from Delta Steel Company through Express junct in Udu local government area.
It was also observed that people who refused to patronise the psp operators in the local government now use the midian as their dump site. The sand were dropped by the past administration for beautification which still ongoing. He said that what is being done today is a temporal measure as the beautification team will commence their job in no distant time and warned that anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately from today will be made to face the full wrath of the law or pay a fine of 50,000 naira.
He now call on the community residents to manage the cleared site well and cooperate with the Sanitation Taskforce team to arrest anyone caught dumping refuse on the cleared midian since they are the once it affects directly. According to the Hon. Commissioner, if the place is dirty, it will house those rats that carries rodents of lassa fever and other health hazards.
He therefore urged the residents of the community to patronise the psp operators who is there to collect waste at the point of generation knowing fully well that Udu is no longer a village but an urban town.
Mr. William Saiki, the immediate past President General of the community pledged their support to the state government and promised that they will give the Taskforce Chairman on sanitation Comr Kingsley Odiaka Iweka MNIM and team necessary support to bring the culprits to book.
Also speaking, Chief James Akponwaye, Delta Central operation director, Taskforce on Dredging commended the Hon commissioner and His Excellency Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for making Udu people feel the presence of the Government. According to him, is a sign of better days ahead. And also pledged to work in synergy with the sanitation Taskforce so as to achieve a clean Udu Local Government.
