DELTA State Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Azinge has said within 26 years of its creation, a lot has been achieved in the health sector.
In a press release signed by his media aide, Christian Onwugbolu, Dr Azinge observed that Delta ranks among the few state in the country with first class health facilities, noting that while the state plays host to a lot of government hospitals, the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara which has recorded a lot of breakthroughs in the health sector, has made the state to be destination for health tourists.
According to the statement, "Dr Azinge believes that the state deserves to celebrate, if for nothing else, the giant strides it has recorded in the health sector, all the local government areas have standard government hospitals and some local government areas plays host to more than one government sponsored general hospital, not to talk about primary health centers that dots different communities."
"One of the greatest achievements the Commissioner of Health is proud of is the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme which was initiated by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa's administration, it is novel among states of the country and it will make health facilities to be at the reach of every Deltan at a cost that will not be felt by the people," it said.
The statement added, "Dr Azinge feels proud to be in the team of a tested medical doctor and politician, Governor Okowa and his work has been made easy as the Governor is abreast with the workings of the health sector."
"As Deltans celebrate 26 years of the state creation, they should thank God for the journey so far and prepare for a better future where the health of the people will remain upper most in the heart of those in government with the full implementation of the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme which will provide a pool of fund for every Deltan who is in need of health facility," it stated.
